Ode to Joy of
the Wine Dark Yesterday

My vision of the past
Runs through
Ruby-tinted glasses
I see the love
I see the passion
(Where it lasted)
I see my heart
Bleeding every second
As it passed
Sometimes
It's cloudy with despair
But then
I always cleaned
My lenses
With the soft cloth
Of a self-soothe
Singing to myself
Like a babe
In a nursery room
I was a child, once,
And so were you
We carry them here
In our blood
Like a fresh bruise
Under the skin
Tender to touch
When nothing is perfect, nothing is clear: you can always trust a hint is near.
A window to a world of green within the brick of walls unseen.
